RUN FOR MOM
Mother's Day 5K Run/Walk
May 11, 2008

  • This WHF Event is held in commemoration of National Women's Health Week (previously called "Run for your Heart"), to now be held annually on Mother's Day. It caters to both seasoned runners and the less-fit with a 5k competitive run a 1-mile Family Health Walk. The event is located on the shores of Lake Mercer in beautiful Mercer County Park in central New Jersey.
  • Schedule: 8 AM - Registration; 9 AM - 1-mile Family Health walk; 10 AM - 5K Run; 11:15 AM Awards Ceremony.
  • A Purple Finisher Ribbon will go to all who finish the walk and run. Door prizes and other giveaways; Games for kids

Support heart disease awareness and wellness in women, gender care and healthy lifestyles programs for prevention in our children's schools. This worthy cause is a "must" event for families to start the perfect Mother's Day. Help commemorate mom's healthy heart! The event will again be a combined with sale of refurbished jewelry and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Women's Heart Foundation.

Itinerary:
  • 8:00 AM -Registration and Welcome by WHF Exec Director Bonnie Arkus. Sponsors acknowledged. DJ music by Robert LaFauci Entertainment
  • 8:25 AM - Giveaways by 101.5 FM Millenium Radio Station and WHF. Jewlry Project sales begin. Introduce vendors at the event.
  • 8:30 AM - Opening Presentation by Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein and reading of the proclamation for National Women's Health Week in New Jersey
  • 8:40 AM - Warm-ups by Stacy Mignone of Slim and Tone and Mary Jane Brady of Jazzercise
  • 9:00 AM - 1-mile Family Health Walk Begins. Assemblywoman Greenstein starts the Walk
  • 9:00 - 9:30AM - Music and more giveaways from 101.5 FM Team
  • 9:20 AM - Bonnie interviews women and family members whose lives have been affected by heart disease
  • 9:40 AM - Guest pediatrician speaks to the rising number of risk factors in our children with a call to action
  • 9:50 AM - County Executive and Race Grand Marshal Brian Hughes issues a proclamation for National Women's Health Week in Mercer County and begins the 5K Race
  • 10:30 AM - Post Race buffet. Music. Interviews. Door prizes. Children's races for 8 and under
  • 11:15 AM - Awards Ceremonies. Sponsors acknowledged. Closing.

Directions to Mercer County Park...
Going North or South on US 1:
At the Quaker Bridge Road intersection with US 1 (a cloverleaf at Quaker Bridge Mall), take Quaker Bridge Road (County 533) south. Continue south through 4 traffic lights (the 4th is Village Road). Continue on about another 0.7 miles through one more traffic light to the intersection with Hughes Drive (which comes in from the left); Quaker Bridge Gardens Nursery is on the southeast corner. Note: You will pass the park’s Quaker Bridge Road fields (QB1 to QB4), which will be on your left across from the "Park Plaza" strip mall. These fields are not within the main park area. Turn left on to Hughes Drive. Continue on Hughes Drive for about 0.7 miles to the Mercer County Park entrance on your left. Make a left into the park; this is the main road through the park.

From North Jersey via the NJ Turnpike:
Take Exit 9. After exiting, take NJ 18 north about 0.5 miles to US 1 south. Go south on US 1 for about 19 miles to Quaker Bridge Road south (a cloverleaf). Then see directions above from US 1. From North Jersey via the NJ Turnpike, Exit 8A. After the toll booth, follow NJ 32 west through the first traffic light to US 130 (second traffic light). Turn left (south) on US 130 to Old Trenton Road (6th traffic light after you get on US 130). Turn right on Old Trenton road. Go through a traffic light (about 0.3 mile) and continue about 2.5 miles to the next traffic light at Princeton-Hightstown Road (county 571; Getty Station on the southwest corner). Continue on Old Trenton Road through two more lights (at Village Road and Edinburgh Road). After going through the 2nd light, continue to the Mercer County Park entrance. Make a right in to the park; this is the main road through the park.

From South Jersey via the NJ Turnpike:
Take Exit 7A (I-195) After the toll booth, follow signs for I-195 West (Trenton). Follow I-195 West to Exit 2; I-295 North (Princeton). Follow I-295 North to Exit 67; US1 North. Follow US1 North past Quaker Bridge Mall on your right, then see directions above from US 1 From South Jersey via I-295 North Follow I-295 North to Exit 67; US1 North. Follow US1 North past Quaker Bridge Mall on your right, then see directions above from US 1 From the East and Freehold area Follow NJ 33 west to NJ 133 (“Hightstown bypass”). Turn right on to NJ 133 and follow it all the way to the end. Cross Princeton-Hightstown road (county 571) at the traffic light. Follow this road until it ends at a "T" intersection, which is Old Trenton Road. Turn left on to Old Trenton Road. Continue on Old Trenton Road through two more lights (at Village Road and Edinburgh Road). After going through the 2nd light, continue to the Mercer County Park entrance. Going South on US 206:
Take US 206 South through Princeton to Province Line Road (traffic light). Turn left on to Province Line Road. Follow Province Line Road through the next traffic light (Princeton Pike, County 583). Continue on Province Line Road (curves around to the left) to Quaker Bridge Road (next traffic light). Turn right (south) on to Quaker Bridge Road. Then see directions above from US 1.
